The goal of this project was to develop a dessert magazine layout for iPad as part of the course Interaction Design Fundamentals at CMU. Cooking is a mix of food and fun, which involves all senses.
I contributed on the competitive analysis, concept ideation, interaction and visual design, and creation of the design language.
The team started tackling this project by conducting competitive analysis of what products already existed in the field of dessert magazines for iPad. We found out that dessert magazines look very clean with food perfectly made, forgetting about the sensorial experience to make food. So, there was an opportunity to explore the kitchen space and bring the mix of food and fun to this field. We created personas who represented the target costumers – young and creative people. Then we created a mood board, which was inspirational for our design capturing the pallet colors of the interface. We rapidly developed layout sketches in paper, agreed on a concept and designed it in Photoshop and Illustrator. We did photo-shoots for the food, kitchen environment, and made the navigation buttons with nutella. We iteratively developed typography and navigation by intern critiques, and peers feedback.
